Given that he hasn't actually finished his lifetime yet, he could still prove you wrong -- though would still be the first president for which no state had been admitted up to the time he became president. If he were able to re-achieve the levels of support he had earlier, one could certainly see him pushing DC statehood before the end of his second term. (Certainly seems unlikely at the moment, though). |

Another fun presidential fact: There have been no US presidents born during the 30s (we skipped from George HW Bush, born 1924 to Willian J. Clinton, born 1946). And at this juncture, there probably never will be one (McCain was the last shot). Of course, there hasn't been a president born in the 50s either, but there is still time for that.Amazingly, the only other "missing" decade is the 1810s (Abraham Lincoln born 1809, Ulysses Grant born 1822). And that's going back to the 1730s, when George Washington and John Adams were born. |

The basic problem with DC statehood is how to do it. One idea is to make a state out of the basic downtown of Washington where the White House and the House and Senate are, but Maryland doesn't want the rest of DC back under any circumstance.I believe the "no state can be created out of any other state" may have something to do with it, so DC as it stands cannot be made a state unless Maryland the voters agree to it. |

Maryland does not want the parts of DC that are not part of the downtown Federal Government (White House, House and Senate and the government buildings for the Federal departments) since the two adjoining counties (Montgomery and Prince Georges) don't want to assume those parts of DC.I suspect DC will remain the way it is, as the assorted political problems cannot be solved easily, there is too much political baggage on both sides of the issue. |

They can simply make downtown DC part of the District and the rest becomes a state.Because of the politics, that wouldn't do. Remember that it's also a partisan issue since admission of a new state comprised of DC or part thereof would likely mean more Democrats in Congress, which Republicans don't at all desire. So about the only compromise that could be struck is admission of a likely Republican majority state at the same time as a fraction of DC. |

Half of Texas would yield more then the one Representative that DC would expect based on their populations. It would be more viable to chop Alaska in two. Both Alaska and DC currently have only one member of Congress (a non-voting Delegate in DC's case). |

I merely said supposed to be, as in the tradition established. To my knowledge, it is not a constitutional requirement, but it is what settled where they would put the capital district. |

Personally I'd rather they pass an amendment entitling the district constituting the seat of government of the United States to representation as if it were a state, although IMO they don't deserve Senators, as Senators represent STATES. That's the problem right there with the 17th amendment. |

The 2nd one was just a waste.Gotta watch it again, but yeah 2nd one is the best of the 4. 2,1,4,3 in that order. Preditor 2, agreed - not as good as the 1st one. If they make a 5th Alien movie, I hope they show the Preditors as well. Like if they are still around or all killed off or something. |

I don't assume that. What I said was Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties do not want any non-governmental parts of the District if the governmental parts are split off. This whole argument is based on the DC statehood question. |
