They can simply make downtown DC part of the District and the rest becomes a state.Because of the politics, that wouldn't do. Remember that it's also a partisan issue since admission of a new state comprised of DC or part thereof would likely mean more Democrats in Congress, which Republicans don't at all desire. So about the only compromise that could be struck is admission of a likely Republican majority state at the same time as a fraction of DC. |
