I've been tracking Jetblue flight 29 on their website, while a plane was actually crashing in Denver.I've been getting this feeling all week that there would be a plane crash. That's why I got the hell out of JFK and drove to Tampa. |

There are far fewer planes in the air, than cars on the road. I posted on Monday that I ran out of JFK when it came time to board, swearing off flying, sensing that something would soon happen. But realistically, how many people die in auto crashes in this country per year vs. the number of people who die in plane crashes? It's much more dangerous to drive a car, or ride an intercity bus for that matter. There must be a place on the internet for 3 questions to be answered: so far for the year 2008: how many deaths in auto travel?; intercity bus travel?; commercial aviation? Certainly one plane crash could cause those numbers to soar above bus deaths, but the death toll this and every year in auto crashes is in the 5 figure range. |
