But since we appear to have a lot of volatile people it can be a problem.I've never had a listed phone number, neither my handle or the email addresses I sometimes use in my posts include my last name. You all know I live on Staten Island but since there are thousands of "Dans" on S.I. I think I'm safe from deranged posters, I hope. I've sent images of maps and such to other posters without any problems so far. I just think you're better off giving out the least amount of personal information on any bulletin board. I'm used to growing internet lunacy, especially on boards like this. We just have to get used to it and not take it personally. |

Selkirk did often go overboard with his own jargon, particularly with the 'Unca's. But I greatly enjoyed his recollections of his experiences as a T/O. I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally, but would like to have. |

I like seeing those old photos and things I wouldn't know about otherwise. the Septa news and such. Community too.Sometimes I'll steal a link to a youtube video, or not be lazy and search for the weeks rail news. I don't understand childish bickering on a flame forum leading people to take their toys and go home. Which seems to happen about twice a month. Only boards I disappeared from are usenet road groups, and all these hezzy news forums because I got tired of making fun and running circles around propaganda talking points with common sense(Trains INCREASE traffic!). Not in rage. Ignore a thread, don't post for a week. otherwise, I just don't get it. And I'm in here too much as it is. |

It certainly isn't my call, but I don't see where disclosing (previously undisclosed) personal information about another poster (publicly available or not) has any place here.In my recollection, the only purpose such disclosures have served were to either mock or intimidate another poster. Whether or not someone can look up the information is not the point. The idea that "it was already in the public domain, so I'm going to shout it from the rooftops" isn't particularly compelling. However, if you put up a public website featuring yourself, photos, address, other informatiuon etc., then by definition you are advertising yourself, and so complaining afterward that someone linked to it or published it in a post on Subchat is very silly. |

I'm sure Kevin is reading all this. If people don't change in here, There's no reason for him to come back. Not worth getting stressed about people on a message who have no meaning or purpose in your life really. I like coming in here because I like to converse with people who are interested in transit related things as I am. But when people start jumping on your back about double postings and idiots and typos and DIAFs and topics that have nothing to do with the original subject, Then it's no longer fun. When that happens people say goodbye and move on to other boards. |

If I used a chat board and got as sick of it as some others seem to have done of this one, I'd think 'f*ck this' and not visit again. My job is heavy passenger rail and I come home dead tired so I don't have time/strength to monitor. I try to 'touch base' here as I can. Sad to hear of this incident.BTW: I coined 'UNCA' as a term of respect and endearment for certain persons of NYCTA or rail experience....not a term lightly assigned to strangers. Unca Selkirk and Unca Train Dude earned my respect a long time ago. I'm 'serious rail'......FRA certified Car Inspector.......I will not sign off a trainset to RTO with defects even if it goes back to customer PI.....I have the last word overiding supervision as FRA inspector. |
