Los Angeles (#2) eliminated by Milwaukee (#38)

Posted by LuchAAA on Fri Oct 16 15:45:38 2026

Looking at tv markets, the World Series teams won't be from a top 10 market.

The Brewers eliminated the Dodgers.

So the number 38 market eliminated the number 2 market.

Right now the Rays (#11) are playing the Guardians (#19).

Funny thing about Tampa, it doesn't feel like a major market. It has the pulse of White Plains, or Mineola. But it shows how much the south has grown.

I'm guessing Cleveland (#19), against Milwaukee (#38) will be the matchup and it won't be good for ratings.

Yes. Seeing the Dodgers eliminated was a pleasure.

Unfortunately the players union will use it in the ongoing contract negotiations.

It's interesting that the World Series is greatly affected in viewership by the size of the teams' fanbases but the Super Bowl isn't.

This lifelong Cub fan congratulates the Milwaukee Brewers on winning the pennant. It will be the Milwaukee Brewers vs. the Cleveland Indians in this year's World Series.

Thank you for correctly-naming the Cleveland American League baseball club.

If it was one game instead of a series, it might be different.

I looked forward to each league's "Wild Card game" and made better attempts to watch when it was just one game, regardless of who was playing.

The short answer to that is the fans of baseball are more regional than football. You’re more likely to find a fan of the Chargers or Seahawks in NYC than a fan of the Padres or Mariners. That has probably changed over the years but football has always had fans of each teams across the nation in greater numbers than baseball.

Certain NFL teams had a national brand and identity.

Steelers were the blue collar team of the 70's and into the 80's.

Cowboys had a national following too.

Chicago Bears were popular with their music video in 1985 and Refrigerator Perry as their top star.

These days, viewers are happy to see Taylor Swift at a Chiefs game.

In baseball, I'd say the Yankees are a national brand but not as strong as it was. They are a big draw when they travel to other cities.

The Red Sox have a huge Dominican fan base because of Big Papi and Pedro Martinez. At one point you'd see Red Sox merch all over Washington Heights, Corona, and other Dominican communities.

Many football teams do. Each team has fans across the country at a greater rate than a baseball team.
Boston was a Dominican favorite even before Ortiz and Martinez. They cemented that fervor.
