It's probobly not a problem if they end up living here but it could be a problem if we end up with a large number US citizens living in China voting by mail with the Chinese government inspecting their ballots before they are submitted. At the very least voting from authoritarian countries should be done in person at a consulate rather than by mail. |

Liberals like Roberts, Barrett, and Kavanagh? Why am I asking? Of course you consider them liberals. Why would you accuse the liberals of wanting the civil war when its the conservatives who kicked the hornets' nest and decided to reinterpret over a century and a half of law and jurisprudence on a minor issue related to immigration? Changing birthright citizenship won't prevent immigration, which is the thing you actually oppose. |

It's a solution in search of a problem that nevertheless placates people. The anchor baby problem goes away if illegal immigration is eliminated. Elsewhere in this thread I pointed out that "birth tourism" may actually be beneficial as it selects for high income people. |

It's a solution in search of a problem that nevertheless placates people. It also hurts people. Huge numbers of people with US birth certificates will need to prove their citizenship. Significant numbers could be wrongfully denied citizenship, say if the father was a permanent resident but walked out on the family when the kid was young. And by the way, do you want to deny citizenship to the children of people who are legally in the country for more than a time-limited visit by authority of an Act of Congress but not permanent residents? There are lots of such people. |
