I've ridden on the actual New Haven Railroad (pre Penn Central) and I've ridden on Penn Central inter-city trains. I've also ridden on the Central Railroad of New Jersey as well as taken their Jersey City to Liberty Street ferry. I've viewed active freight trains (never ridden a passenger train though) on the Delaware and Hudson's Oneonta branch. |

You can drive to the shores of James Bay, the southern extension of Hudson Bay and therefore part of the Arctic Ocean, on the James Bay Road in Quebec. On the Dempster Highway in the Northwest Territories you can drive right up to the shores of the Arctic Ocean itself, same thing on the Dalton Highway in Alaska though you have to take an escorted tour by an oil company to go to the shoreline. |

Always a fascinating place. Did some research on it.There's also gravel roads that take you into the central Quebec boreal forest along the rivers that feed the hydropower generators. Looks stark, if you find *beauty* in it, I'd say it’s worthwhile. However, you need some means to camp (it’s cold) as there's NOTHING out there but an outfitter (provide fuel, which you’ll need, and/or a plane for your caribou hunt) and the camps for hydropower engineers. No chance of anything close to a general/grocery retailer. 4WD IS A MUST. Plus, you'll probably need to dodge HUGE logging trucks (this imparted knowledge is pre-wildfires) as they cannot stop. |
