Justice Delayed is Still Justice

Posted by TRAIN DUDE on Wed May 21 14:02:44 2025

2 executions yesterday - one in Texas and one in Indiana. In Texas matthew lee johnson is no more. During a robbery, he set the clerk, a 76 year old grandmother on fire 13 years to the day prior to his execution. He asked for forgiveness because even though he set her on fire, he didn't mean to hurt her.

In indiana the first execution of the day took place just after midnight. 25 years ago, this citizen killed a police officer.

38 years for justice to be done but while not swift justice was certain.

The money the public was forced to pay to keep these people (loosely-termed) alive for decades is still an injustice.

The relatives of those killed would agree with you Dude but lament how long it took. We had a case back in 1993 out here in Pasadena where three young people were ambushed by three punks and killed. The three rotten bastards got the death penalty but they are still alive getting their three squares a day, TV, books and a light work load. I try to find info about this case periodically but it really burns me that it has largely been forgotten. These three punks should have been sent to hell way long ago. Just wonder how many cases in the US are similar to this one.

I agree. As with the cited case in Indiana, he served 25 years on death row before his execution. There's that pesky due process again.

Where Is Urooj Rahman? Was: Justice Delayed is Still Justice

Speaking of following cases, Fred, back in May of 2020, 2 NYPD vehicles were fire bombed during the "peaceful" george floyd protests. One was attempted by a young woman from Saugerties, NY. Fortunately for the 6 officers in the van, the Molotov Coctail tossed by Samantha Shader failed to ignite. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

There were also 2 lawyers from Brooklyn who successfully firebombed an empty NYPD patrol car. They too were caught. They pled guilty to Comspiracy to Commit Arson and were both sentenced to 15 months and both lost their license to practice law. One of the cops was the friend of a friend so I followed these cases with interest, which brings us to Urooj Rahman.

Urooj Rahman was born in pakistan and lived in bay ridge. She went to fordham university where in 2011 she graduated. After she pled guilty, ms. Rahman was sentenced in 2023. She was released in 2024. She is a staunch anti Israel/pro palestinian aggitator. My question, If she is not a citizen, why has she not been deported due to her terrorist activities? If she has become a citizen, can that citizenship be revoked and can she be removed from New York and this country?

How much can it cost to just have a family member of the victim(s) come and swiftly kill them, then dump the body in the incinerator? (Of course if there's absolute proof that the prisoner indeed did it)

There was recently a death row case where the guy had been on death row so long, they claimed he was another pedo joe and couldn't remember anything anymore. So it would be unconstitutional to continue the death sentence against a guy who couldn't remember anything over 30 years later.

I don't see anything wrong with an appeal, but these things used to take place rather quickly. So just because a few months is way too quick, and made for a lot of movie plots, we have to wait until they are seniors now?

In the meantime, the US taxpayers had to shoulder the burden of housing and feeding these animals.

Its like that Luigi creep. He sits in prison, wearing taxpayer provided clothes, eating taxpayer provided food and gets taxpayer provided health care while his victim rots in his grave and his victim’s children face daily agony of life without their father. Luigi should have been toast a long time ago. If his supporters love him so much, the authorities could do a “Rabbi Akiba” on him the way the Romans did in the 1st century - tear his face off before execution, have it mounted on a plaque and present it to his admirers.

Maybe the US should be providing people with life, liberty, and the good n' plenty clause.

Why doesn't the widows and orphans get supported by the government? We can send money to palestein for their pay-to-slay program and give families of terrorist a lifetime pension.
But we cannot do it for our own victims?

On February 15, 1933 Giuseppe Zangara tried to shoot president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt while the latter was giving a speech in Miami. Zangara missed Roosevelt, likely because he was only five feet tall and had to stand on a wobbly folding chair to aim over the crowd, but hit and gravely injured Chicago mayor Anton Cermak who was standing next to Roosevelt.

Zangara pled guilty to attempted murder on February 21 and immediately got an 80-year sentence. Cermak died on March 6, Zangara pled guilty to murder on March 9, and went to the Hot Squat on March 20. All done within six weeks.

Then again, Sacco and Vanzetti were charged with a murder that occurred in April 1920. They were executed 7 years later, and it is now generally accepted that they were innocent of the crime. Or at a very minimum that they were convicted on faked evidence.

Nothing that gets said on this board is going to change the world or have any impact on what happened last night in DC. Even more so now that this community has devolved into a right wing echo chamber and cesspool, eliminating diversity of opinions. It's why I don't read the board as often as I used to. I imagine others feel the same way.

Pesky my ass. Three punks who were convicted of murder are still alive and guests of the state and taxpayers. That's not pesky; it's bullshit and a weakness in our criminal justice system. Too damn ambulance types looking for a big reputation latch onto a pack of miscreants and while trying to build a reputation for themselves drive the parents and love ones of the victims into utter despair. Maybe a little old time Texas justice type of handling these creeps might find that a vast majority of Americans don't like the way our system works and wouldn't mind at least considering something like the way we used to handle killers, rapists, robbers and assholes in general.

As a Jew raised in the Washington area, perhaps you'll give me some deference on this matter. I honestly don't know what you or CMM "expects" me to say in this circumstance. In Judaism, there's a custom that when one makes a shiva call, you don't speak until the mourner(s) speak to you. Sometimes, silence and listening are far superior to talking.

I have high standards for which the death penalty should be used. I'm not apologizing if they are too high for you, but there's no "do-overs" if you get it wrong. Sentencing someone to life without parole would be far less expensive for everyone involved.
