Posted by Peter Rosa on Thu May 22 11:15:16 2025, in response to Justice Delayed is Still Justice, posted by TRAIN DUDE on Wed May 21 14:02:44 2025. On February 15, 1933 Giuseppe Zangara tried to shoot president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt while the latter was giving a speech in Miami. Zangara missed Roosevelt, likely because he was only five feet tall and had to stand on a wobbly folding chair to aim over the crowd, but hit and gravely injured Chicago mayor Anton Cermak who was standing next to Roosevelt.Zangara pled guilty to attempted murder on February 21 and immediately got an 80-year sentence. Cermak died on March 6, Zangara pled guilty to murder on March 9, and went to the Hot Squat on March 20. All done within six weeks. |
