Take the things that teach respect and reflection out of the schools and there is no longer a moral check valve. Take parental supervision out of the mix and children who have not yet developed sufficiently to have self control, are unleashed on the streets. Finally, because of jail over-crowding and something we now call "equity", laws are no longer being enforced, crimes are no longer being punished and victims have become unfortunates. |

It doesn't "need" to be supported by misleading stats. The people "in the trenches" on the street know. Crime was "too high" around 1990, 1991 or so, so COMPSTAT was utilized, first by the TAPD, then NYPD. Bottom line, if it can be reduced, reclassified, or dropped altogether, it "never happened". This is what Jeff and others here did for a living, they know the reality of it. |

OK, so they put in COMPSTAT and adjusted everything downward. But they can't keep on doing that year after year.Also, it's really, really hard to hide homicides. There's a limit to how many accidental gun shot deaths you can record in the system. And if they really were hiding homicides, then accidental deaths would be climbing, which they aren't. |
