ok. what if those babies were born? Then they would be "at risk youth".

NYC saw a big drop in crime when 100's of 1000's of babies were aborted by the welfare system. These are the women more likely to give life to males who commit violent crimes as teens and early 20's.

By aborting them, crime dropped.

Places like Atlanta, Memphis, and New Orleans did not have abortion on demand and over the decades, crime in these once safe Southern cities, has predictably risen.

thanks for attacking.

But we all know how and why abortion lowered crime.

Conservatives are saying "this will save lives" referring to the SCOTUS decision. But whose lives will be saved? And whose lives will be in greater danger as a result of won't be aborted?

That doesn’t make sense. If you ban abortion for everyone, then you increase the birth rate for everyone else. On the other hand, if abortion remains legal, the group that’s against abortion will have more babies. If it were about numbers, they’d want the non-evangelicals to get abortions. The reality is that they found a cause that they can mobilize voters with. The fastest growing religious group now are the “nones” (not necessarily atheists) and the more reactionary the religious wrong acts, the fewer people will adhere to them over time. That’s why they’re obsessed with elections, since they know that free and fair elections will eventually be their death knell.

I don’t think it’s confusing for Jews. Most Jews are well aware that the Hebrew Bible was “appropriated” into the Christian Bible and that Jesus was Jewish.

What does the fact that opposition to abortion can be religiously motivated have to do with whether or not Roe is good law? The issue is if the court in Roe was correct or not in finding a "right" to abortion in the Constitution. If there is no such right there, then the issue is to be decided legislatively, likely at the state level, where you are welcome to try to make your arguments for a law allowing abortion.

That is incorrect. A law can be inspired by anything, including religious belief, and be constitutional - see the "blue laws" against commerce on Sunday for reference. A law is unconstitutional if it imposes religious acts - but prohibiting abortion is not the imposition of a religious act.

So what? I don’t think that ending a life is something that needs to be prevented. I have no problem ending the lives of other animals for the purposes of sustenance, or any other purpose. It’s humanity that’s special, not “life.” Besides, if you want to make it about “life,” there are plenty of organisms that don’t have hearts or heartbeats, they’re certainly still life, while an embryo without a heartbeat is still alive as it has living cells just the same.

I think that the majority of people regardless of religion think that a fetus is a baby. The people that plan to keep the baby certainly refer to the fetus as a baby. It’s only ever called a “fetus” when an abortion is involved. The terrible part is the number of people that agree that a fetus is a baby but are still pro-choice. I can’t wrap my brain around that.

I speak of evolved human beings, not "plenty of organisms". The presence of a heartbeat has always been the universal sign of life. I'll go so far as to say that the heartbeat has been recognized by the state as the presence of life or death. As an example, In the case of capital punishment, after the procedure, the execuitee is checked for a heartbeat. No heartbeat?? Mission accomplished.

It’s not a fetus when it’s aborted, it’s almost always an embryo. The even jellicles and other women-are-brood-mares types have popularized the term fetus to get people to oppose abortion.

Anyway, even when it’s scientifically a fetus, I don’t consider a fetus a baby.

And yet thousands of people whose hearts have stopped beating have gone on to live for years longer. The heart is a pump and it only gets special recognition because ancient people thought it was more important than it really was.

Note: this also leads to the monstrous practice of leaving braindead people “alive” connected to machines just because the heart still beats.

The point is that a baby is its own human being, and that individual’s existence begins at some point, and it’s meaningless to consider that it begins when its present or future body can pump its own blood.
