And yet thousands of people whose hearts have stopped beating have gone on to live for years longer. The heart is a pump and it only gets special recognition because ancient people thought it was more important than it really was.Note: this also leads to the monstrous practice of leaving braindead people “alive” connected to machines just because the heart still beats. The point is that a baby is its own human being, and that individual’s existence begins at some point, and it’s meaningless to consider that it begins when its present or future body can pump its own blood. |
