That common practice is called “price discrimination” and it’s universally reviled by consumers in other industries. It’s how cars (with one exception) are sold and why people hate car dealers.

Indigent and undocumented patients are only given the bare minimum to stabilize them, then back out the door they go. Wealthy or insured patients get the entire course of treatment their condition calls for, not just what corrects the immediate emergency.
I was in the hospital for two weeks following my stroke. That entire stay comprised the emergency care portion my treatment. Follow-up care, including outpatient rehab, was based solely on my ability to pay. If I didn't have coverage, I wouldn't have received those services.

Yep. When I had a trip to the ER last May, I was treated & stabilized, no questions asked until I was sent home.

Those same two weeks would have been given to you if you were indigent. That’s the “ER” part of your treatment.

He did say "ER". And what about Medicaid? Doesn't that cover the indigent?

Medicaid covers the indigent for a limited time. Like other forms of state-level public assistance, it can be terminated at any time.

Name an instance where they were terminated before emergency treatment was complete.

I miss the days he would post about people going to prison for medical treatment.

This month there was a good 3 page article in one of the newspapers about how people are dying in federal prisons due to lack of medical care. Since it is the government, there is a lengthy appeals process, and paperwork is frequently returned for a field not being answered correctly. Typical government stuff. And they pass away after years of waiting for responses from the bureaucrats.


I can't wait for singlepayer.
