Indigent and undocumented patients are only given the bare minimum to stabilize them, then back out the door they go. Wealthy or insured patients get the entire course of treatment their condition calls for, not just what corrects the immediate emergency.I was in the hospital for two weeks following my stroke. That entire stay comprised the emergency care portion my treatment. Follow-up care, including outpatient rehab, was based solely on my ability to pay. If I didn't have coverage, I wouldn't have received those services. |
