First Omicron Study

Posted by Stephen Bauman on Tue Dec 7 19:37:29 2021

Here's a link to the in vitro (test tube) study review. It contains a link to the source study.

Link: https://www.statnews.com/2021/12/07/a-first-small-study-suggests-omicron-is-a-larger-threat-to-covid-19-immunity-than-other-variants/

"The scientists found that, overall, there was a 41-fold reduction in neutralization against Omicron compared to an early form of the coronavirus, a substantial drop but not necessarily a devastating one."

The weakness of in vitro studies is they don't directly relate to how sick a person is likely to get. We're going to have to wait for epidemiological studies to answer that question.

From your link:

"Many experts have said their best guess is that Omicron is likely to lead to more breakthrough infections and reinfections, but that for most people, protection against more serious outcomes will be preserved. The new study lends credence to that hypothesis."

Thats all I need to know. I'm 3x vaccinated so if I get sick, rest in bed, "Jewish" penicillin, Tylenol for fever & minimal Irish whiskey for mental health & in a week , I'll be good to go!

Yep, the data so far indicates that Omicron is more contagious, but less lethal especially if you have been vaccinated.

their best guess

So, you want to take a chance on a single, non-peer reviewed, in vitro, study. Were you one of those who condemned the expedited procedure for the vaccination approvals?

I only condemn hysterical paranoia. That said, I go with the facts that are out there now. Its more contagious but less lethal to those that are 3x vaccinated. What else is anyone supposed to do?

sorry boss. "many experts have said" deads it for me right there. most experts i've known need to be tied up inside a rolled up rug and pushed off a mountaintop.

sadly, in a scientific sense, the only way us norms can discern reality from falsehood regarding this chinese bioweapon is via inferential data.

but it's enough. and what i infer from this inferential data is that the whole thing is extremely overblown. at least, as far as being extremely worried about it. ill thought out micro managing of our bodies never seems to work. macro is the way to go.

i ain't worried. and i can truthfully say i wish you hadn't fallen for their scenario.

Many experts have said their best guess …

If they were experts, they wouldn't have to guess. And citing unnamed "experts" is argumentum ad verecundiam.

So anecdotes are more reliable? Thought so, lol.

"i wish you hadn't fallen for their scenario."

I'm at the stage of my life that I know more doctors than bartenders.
That said, all of them (doctors) that deal with me, taking into consideration my age, medical history, etc say I should get the vaccine.
It was a unanimous opinion. Now who am I to question and say they're wrong & I am right?
I don't think that qualifies for "falling for their scenario"

When there are doctors who deserve mocking. But only a small minority.

yeah. ahh, doctors. i'm willing to accept that there's a possibility that "ignorance is bliss but not exactly", meaning, not knowing overly detailed "facts" about the "condition" you have may be a way towards greater overall, um, vitality. as to exactly how that relates to specific issues you may be experiencing, who knows?

mind/body. how we feel affects how we think we are affects how we are. from what i've observed people think themselves sick. or, and maybe more importantly, sicker.

imagine an army where the soldiers keep hearing the generals lament at how defeated many of the soldiers are and how they're bound to lose. your body is your army.
