I might well have even tried other drugs because the idea that you get addicted from one dose is fearmongering bullshit. But like I said, it being illegal makes it inaccessible. Same thing would be true with guns for the vast majority of people. The only people who would have access to guns in that case would be the very people who you don’t want having guns.

The susceptability to a single dose of something may vary dramatically from person to person. You'd hate to find out you were unlucky. Drugs be inaccessible in what regard? They’re not at Stop n Shop but from some guys I knew in college it was very easy to acquire illegal drugs. I don't buy into it & never did. But in the real world, exceptions happen, conclusions can be drawn. After all, junkies most likely had a beer years before they shot up & a few out there took a hit of crystal meth & became hooked for life. No two people can be expected to react to the same drug the same way. Bottom line is that the broad brush approach doesn't work here.

I was with these friends / acquaintances of mine during my college years on a camping trip up in Bar Harbor Maine. Long story short A few of them wandered into a park and struck up a conversation with this other crew of guys in the park and before you knew it they all had tabs of acid. Except me. It’s uncanny how these guys can spot each other. And I don’t think it’s much different than if I moved somewhere else in the country I’d be able to hook up with the local baseball guys and VW club without much effort.

If you want an example, there’s alcohol. Plenty of people can take it in small doses and even heavy doses without being addicted, but alcohol addiction is still a problem. I agree with you about “gateway drugs.”
