He is nothing of the sort.He clarified what he meant.....fact is, many American blacks don't know their precise ancestry and the cultures of those places. That is less true with Hispanic people, many of whom , just like European-Americans, have only been here several generations. They both have a greater awareness of their heritage than American blacks, who were cut off from the same up to hundreds of years ago. Then he apologized, regardless. He can also distinguish an elephant from a lion. In before it’s trumps benchmark. |

And the problem with this isn’t that he’s wrong, it’s that he said it in a really crude way. What he meant was that “Latino” includes people like Mexicans and Puerto Ricans who have little in common other than their ancestors being from former Spanish colonies. “African American” almost entirely includes people who are descended from slaves in the USA alone. Yes, there are Caribbean-Americans and also African immigrants and their descendants (like Obama himself), but it’s a smaller subset. |
