Often wondered how I wound up with a "normal" name like James. Never thought of asking them when they were alive. |

That's close to the NYPD codes except in the NYPD "L" is Larry not Lincoln, "O" is Oscar not ocean, and "Y" is yellow not young. Or longer.I've looked at old census records in upstate areas that were very fundamentalist (there was a "Church of Pilgrim Holiness" with a decent sized congregation maybe into the 1960s or so). The really old fashioned biblical names went out of fashion by 1870. The grandfather of the guy I knew, named Pardon, was born circa 1850. And as an adult he was generally called Pardee (I'm guessing because Pardon was too quaint by then). |

Later on, it became international(World Meteorological Organization)Tropical storms don't recognize borders or languages, or customary names in one country or language. The name lists are on a 6 year cycle, and after 6 years, start at the beginning, year 1. You can see the lists for each year on the NOAA site. |
