So am I. :)

All those words indicate I am speculating that just maybe things will get better.

All those numbers go up if you swamp the healthcare system by allowing the virus to burn through the population with no control measures in place.

What people also don't understand is that our medical system is set up to handle those levels of those diseases, but not for rapidly increasing levels of covid-19.

And in addition, covid-19 takes a lot more resources per case. Not many diseases put you on a ventilator for 2 weeks if you have a serious case.

***EMS crews only transport dead people when:

1. The patient dies enroute to the hospital.

2. The crew was assigned to the call, the body is in public view, the crew makes the presumptive diagnosis of death (PDOD), and the police have released the body.

****PDOD criteria = injuries incompatible with life (e g. decapitation, etc.), rigor mortis, extreme dependent lividity, the patient's brain is outside their body--I actually had such a patient in the middle of the Grand Central Parkway, orders to stop resuscitation from Medical Control, or decomposition.

In almost all other cases, the medical examiner will pick up and transport the body, unless the death was natural and arrangements have been made with a funeral home.

Lets stick to the facts.

We have a virus with no vaccine that is easily transmittable.
Right now this virus in the US alone has an above 1% fatality which is 4 times the seasonal flu.

The seasonal flu has an average death rate percentage of 0.1%.

The corona virus is over 1%.

The flu kills 45-65000 people per year.

So right now if the trend stays the course at just 1%. You could see 450-600000 people die. Even Fauci estimates 200000 people dying.

Do these people have to die? No. There is a chance to slow or spread it.

So theres two options, take radical measures and get these numbers to drop or...

Look at this like a crazy American and cry about freedom and open the floodgates for more deaths.

Selfishness would literally be a killer.

I read that's largely because people that test positive aren't getting treatment/medicines until their condition starts getting worse. Most people get better on their own and we don't have the medicine available for everyone. But with treatment delayed people that do get worse, get worse pretty rapidly. By next year we should have more medicine, more everything.

All that you say may be true but in the end it comes back to the "butter or guns" issue. We've, for the most part, opted for safety over freedom.

If sacrificing “safety over freedom” in this case? Then were a selfish nation

Agreed, but it's a slippery slope. Because of "this case", the next case will be that much easier even if less threatening.

No, the next case won't be easier.

Pretty soon construction and factory workers will be saying, hey we're not mingling with lots of people, let us get back to work. And politicians will understand that they can't keep people home forever.

And eventually restaurants and live entertainment will be pushing really hard to reopen, and politicians will have a hard time pushing back.

Lol. No problem.

I think that we largely agree. Just because I ask a question doesn't necessarily mean that's what I think. It's just a question that am I thinking as I try to process what this means.

We both for the most part see the restrictions as prudent and a good idea. But not everyone does. What happens next time we we disagree? I think that we should all be thinking along those lines. I think that we live in a time when many people at the ends of the political spectrum are so sure that they are right that they would accept or even advocate the government forcing their beliefs on everyone else. And many in the middle are sheep and don't question such things if they also agree.

1.25 million lives are lost every year due to traffic deaths.

The number of traffic deaths in the US is approximately 38K; you gave the global figure. Dr. Fauci stated the US trajectory for 100K to 200K due to Covid 19.

Some people on this forum have expressed their distaste for sacrificing their freedom of traveling at speeds they consider safe instead of speed limits imposed for safety.

What safety? We have no quentine down here. Governer refused.
The LT Gov. whistleblowed a few days ago and said someone needs to be doing something.
A new order just came down. I don't see what the difference is.

What safety? They're doing more in Mexico City than chunks of flyover country.

The disease is going to circulate and backflow for years. Airlines from the US will be barred from going overseas. It's like a sci-fi flick. Like V.

It's also possible a completely harmless variant silently spreads and inoculates many people. It might even be happening already, which is why we need better testing - nature could have already created the vaccine. If you find a cluster of people somewhere who all test positive but barely have the sniffles for the entire duration of the illness, there you go!

As for re-infection, the data I read is that it wasn't that they suddenly picked up a different strain (there's 8 different ones they've traced so far). It was that the antibodies from the first infection didn't last very long, but I don't think any of the re-infected have needed hospitalization, they just became carriers again.
