The patient dies enroute to the hospital. 2. The crew was assigned to the call, the body is in public view, the crew makes the presumptive diagnosis of death (PDOD), and the police have released the body. ****PDOD criteria = injuries incompatible with life (e g. decapitation, etc.), rigor mortis, extreme dependent lividity, the patient's brain is outside their body--I actually had such a patient in the middle of the Grand Central Parkway, orders to stop resuscitation from Medical Control, or decomposition. In almost all other cases, the medical examiner will pick up and transport the body, unless the death was natural and arrangements have been made with a funeral home. |
