At least the state government can. Although the US government can close businesses.

I leave the house every day for food. However, I do it exceedingly carefully. With the exception one or two closer but very brief encounters in the supermarket, I always stay more than 6 feet from everyone. And I always wear a well-fitting mask.

No symptoms so far; I've been doing this since March 14th.

But I would strongly object to some covidiot not doing his part to avoid me as much as I avoid him.

I haven't been out of the house for food in over a month, except for drive thru's. However my wife has gone to stores a couple of times which I guess is just as dangerous for both of us.

Assume your only two choices were those extremes, then yes, I'd choose "dangerous freedom." But the "freedom" that the anti-quarantine protesters are seeking is an insipid form of "freedom". That they want to put lives at risk to get a haircut.

Amtrak Hiawatha service is discontinued today until May 26th, per request of WIS and IL DOT's, who fund it.

Empire Builder is the only way north of Fox Lake at present, with added stops at Sturtevant and Milwaukee Airport.

Maybe they'll setup a checkpoint and throw all the Ill. people off the train. The state has a large tax hole to plug and you can only raise taxes so much before you just make it illegal to leave.

Depends who runs it where. Coach USA has shut down all companies in NJ. Suburban Transit is a Megabus operator here, but does not have double-deck coaches.

I don't know about Van Galder up to Madison, WI, or Wisconsin Coach Lines from Milwaukee to Kenosha.

Yes, and it is excruciatingly slow, replaced TMER interubans in the 1950's. It connects with METRA at Kenosha. I don't know if they are running that far now, although a couple of hospitals on the Wisconsin side have reverse commuters from Chicago

As of tomorrow, the 2 remaining Amtrak Hiawatha trains will be buses for a month. Ridership is down 90%.

You are correct on your history. The TMER&L was the direct predecessor to the Wisconsin Coach Lines, and I have ridden it as well a few times, and unless you book early on Megabus, this way is much cheaper than either Amtrak or Greyhound. The ride also gives you a more interesting ride to Milwaukee than Interstate 94.


I wonder who will supply the buses in lieu of the Amtrak service?
