I am somewhat curious as to what current (R) positions are keeping you from their side.My remaining policy objections with (R)s are: -they go too hard on personal responsibility and cutting safety nets... yes "teach a man to fish" is better than "give a man a fish", but at least help the man get a fishing rod, lest he vote to socialize fisheries -rolling back environmental policies haphazardly -the war on drugs -the cutback on legal immigration The Libertarian influence on the party seems to have dulled that last point. That said, the two main pillars of the left right now are either cut back on economic freedom via socialism, and assraping the 2nd amendment. Those objections are too large and important for me to lodge a protest vote. If the eventual candidate doesn't back off that rhetoric on both fronts, as far as I'm concerned #KAG. |

(1). ✔️ That's a reflection of the platform, makes sense.(2). They've retreated to "no taxpayer funded abortions" and "no 3rd trimester abortions" rather than none at all. I don't think Roe v Wade is in imminent danger. (3). That influence is almost gone at the federal level. The stance has moved from moral authoritarianism to more libertarian, and I've been increasingly seeing more moral authoritarianism from the left. If it were anyone other than Trump this shift would not have happened, because his younger supporters are irreligious. The party is more like NY Republican than bible belt Republican. (4). Got anything more specific? (5). ✔️ I agree with you here, I'll add that to my list. (6). Trump pushed through the First Step act against the wishes of half his base and it hasn't had any horrible side effects yet. The NYS Bail reform is a dumpster fire. I don't actually trust the Dems to do criminal justice reform right now, they're blinded by "enforcing laws is racist"... which is a pretty racist attitude to have. (7). All I've seen is they want accurate voter rolls and voter ID, those aren't bad things. I haven't followed this aspect of their platform so If I'm missing something LMK, got any specifics? |

Which is probably temporary as long as libertine Trump is in office. But they still have influence. Look at his trans in the military ban, Pence, and the Indiana mafia’s control of HHS. 4. It’s a general thing. The party that gets rural votes will champion rural causes and the party that gets urban votes will champion urban causes. 6. That doesn’t mean that bail reform isn’t a worthy cause. NJ bail reform is not a dumpster fire. 7. Those are bad things. They are going through massive efforts to use all legal methods to make sure that as few people as possible can vote. Voter ID is a solution in search of a problem. So is purging voter rolls. Also gerrymandering, reducing voting hours, watering down prop 4 in Florida. It took the election of a Democratic Senate in NY to implement early voting, one day primaries, and unrestricted absentee ballots. |
