Eh, a few other reasons for full-serve:1 - The gas pump is the dirtiest thing you'll touch all day 2 - It's cold up here, I like being able to sit in the car 3 - I'm never in enough of a rush when I need gas that the extra 2-3 minutes actually matters. When Shop-Rite first opened up here, the gas stations attached to it were full serve and had prices exactly in line with all the other gas stations nearby; it didn't even cost more. |

They are often quite a bit longer, particularly due to attendants having to juggle multiple pumps and deal with multiple transactions including cash. |

Sometimes you'll find a gas station has replaced one of their handles and "forgotten" to remove the clip, but yeah, it sucks. People then do things like shove the gas cap into the gap, and because it's not designed to deal with a gas cap holding the trigger down, gas spills all over the place. The very safety reason the clips were removed for is thus more likely to happen because they're not there. |

I drive to NJ three weeks a month and always fill up at the first Sunoco station going down (immediately after crossing into NJ on 17) or the last BP station on the way out. If the price difference is large enough I'll use the U-turn to get to that Sunoco station and then back on the road - it's arguably the easiest southbound station to reach from / get back to the northbound side on all of 17. |
