Lawmakers

I would think staying on Standard time would be better , just my 2 cents.

Setting it on the half hour in the middle is probably the most ideal, but also most difficult to implement without worldwide orchestration.

Between daylight and standard, we spend most of the year on daylight, so if SC will be going out on a limb and be different, at least keeping it on daylight will keep things the same for most of the year, including the high travel season.

Agreed. SC is already in the western half of the Eastern time zone, so if they stayed on standard time they would in effect have half an hour of daylight time all year round. This proposal would give them 1.5 effective hours of daylight time all year round.

I disagree. Daylight time is superior.

Wasn't there some problem with DST in September , the school kids were waiting in the dark for their buses?????

Of course it would. Daylight Savings time is a sham.

As most of us here live north of SC, we know the wisdom of standard time in the dark months. 8:30 sunrise is too late. (I am aware this is less an issue further south) especially for child safety WRT school transportation.

The way they have it set up is about the best Idea thus far.

Daylight time is superior.

This is all relative to the things in your life that are time-inflexible. If your employer mandates a 9 to 5 day, then yes, you may find one regimen inherently superior to another. But other employers mandate an 8 to 4 day, in which case the circumstances are completely different. Other employers have flextime, in which case it probably doesn't matter much.

The Hudson Valley is fortunate to run right up the middle of the time zone.

Uncentered time zones do annoying things. Sunrise in Van Horn TX, which is pretty far south, on 11/1/2019 was 8:15 AM, Central Daylight Time. In Williston, ND, it was 8:41 AM!

I could be wrong, but I don't think that most adults care that much whether it's light or dark when they travel or arrive at work. In that sense I can see where DST is superior because most would prefer extra daylight at the end of the day.

Kids are different though and most would want their kids traveling back and forth to school during daylight, if possible.

I would rather kids have an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon to play outside, enjoy the snow, etc. (That's if kids actually do get off the computer and play outside)

They could of course arrange school hours so that they are symmetric around noon (e.g., 8:45 to 3:15), if that was a major goal.

What does that have to do with anything? I really don’t care if it’s dark when I wake up, whether I wake up at 5 or at 8.

8:30 sunrise is awesome! It means more hours of daylight when it can be used.

Arizona has been different than it's neighboring states (although standard) and it worked there, so it should work there too

Heh. Get a job in the ND oil fields and you'll be at longitude 104 degrees and still in Central Time. Get daylight time in the winter and double daylight time in the summer. Sunset in Williston ND on 6/22/2019 was 9:59 PM.

Definitely agree on DST as superior.

Plus, in the summer right now, for example, June 12th, NYC has a sunrise of 5:24 AM.

How many people's sleep cycles will be royally fucked if sunrise was at 4:24 AM that day?
