Wow. These kids haven't seen an old movie? That would at least expose them to a demonstration of how to dial a phone number. Yikes! Warning to all you genders....get off your cellphones and teach your kids something, and fast. They need to know a lot more than hate and that's all they seem to have been exposed to.

How many movies focus on the dialing of a number? That shit is usually edited down or deëmphasized, because nobody wants to spend 2 hours watching mundane crap.

The only movie that shows how to dial a phone is Dial M for Murder. So they didn’t see that one. Too bad, but BFD.

There is no need whatsoever to teach kids how to dial a rotary phone. Maybe we should teach kids how to use a muzzleloading rifle, or teach them how to churn butter.

Yes. It’s a hobby. But my point is it’s not a universal skill.

NOTE: I took a class once that explained muzzleloaders and demonstrated one (no loading/firing). I didn’t know they made modern ones. Cool.

As an aside, Butterfield 8 also lends importance to old style phone usage. 288 might not be as snazzy a title.

Yes, but modern phone keypads (in the “phone” app) still have letters on them.

Nobody has commented on the fact that these dumbasses tried to dial without picking up the phone. Which means they can’t even use a regular modern landline touch tone.* That’s why I agree with Bill that they’re retards. And yet they somehow though that picking up and putting down the receiver “reset” the phone after a misdial? Have these jackasses ever heard a dial tone in their life?

*Office phones tend to allow dialing before pickup.

Earlier I had claimed that it was a useless skill to teach and should be treated as a hobby. IIRC, AlM disagrees and claims that it’s faster to write cursive and should be taught for that reason.

I would argue it is faster but still useless for the number of times you would need it.

Signatures also need to be obsoleted. Why does an illegible squiggle on a piece of paper still authorize its contents in 2019?

Back in the 1960's in Southwestern Bell territory of the Bell System 288 was used for line testing. Dial 288 wait for a dial tone dial 8 again, hang up and the phone would ring.

IIRC, with New York Telephone, it was 2-2-0, wait for dial tone and then 2. Then your phone would ring back.
