i really wish we would have laid to waste the entire arab middle east. down to dust. war were declared.

down to dust. every stinking country over there. excepting israel.

let the world debate the action for the next fifty years. but nobody would try it ever again. harsh, sure. of course. but.

dead men tell no tales. and that's what the world needed to understand: you fucked with the wrong people for the last time. down to dust. all. of. you. done. and then tell the world:

"next?"

I saw 9/11 happen before my eyes from the window of my 18th floor office at 110 William Street three blocks east of the WTC. I saw the flames, the people falling, the buildings collapsing, the smoke and the ash. I heard the screams from the streets below, heard police and fire sirens suddenly hushed. I felt the rumble on my floor caused by the falling debris.

I remember every detail of that day without exception, as if it just happened. The only other day in my entire 54+ years on this rotten planet that I remember with equal clarity is the day my father died very suddenly.

I can’t even look at these pictures without feeling physically ill and wanting to cry. It all comes back - the horror, the grief, the feeling of utter helplessness in the face of pure evil. I just can’t.

I saw a therapist for awhile after 9/11. He was pretty sure I have a form of PTSD from witnessing it.

I will never forget 9/11. No matter how long I live.

There is one county in Florida that goes all out everyyear. Digital signs, ceremonies, etc. I forget if they got a piece of the steel beams or if that was just another county over.

But in most of the country, it's just another day. Everyyear I can't help noticing how many things and events just coincidentally have to fall on 9/11 but never on 9/12 or 9/10.
The remembrance started to trickle out in 2003, and was most noticeable by 2004 imo.
I've always been curious if the NYC area at least has some feeling that something happened that day.

Thanks, Bill.

I wrote this a year or two after 9/11, and posted it on Dave Pirmann's old board:

"I was in NYC the weekend before 9/11, still hyped up after the 2001 Chicago Field Trip. Friday, Sept. 7, my wife and I got off the 4 train at Bowling Green and walked down to the Battery where we boarded the ferry to Ellis Island. Her parents and my grandparents entered this country through EI and neither of us had been there before. It was a magnificent experience.

After exiting the subway I pointed out the WTC to her and asked if she wanted to go inside the complex; I had been there a number of times, most recently that April, but she had never been there. She said no, she'd like to but we didn't have time so maybe next trip.

About halfway between the dock and Liberty Island, I went up to the top deck of the ferry and looked north toward lower Manhattan. You all know how nice the weather was those few days and the view looked like a postcard; it was so beautiful it took my breath away and filled this ex-NYer's heart with pride. I dragged my wife upstairs and made her look (she suffers from sea sickness and was sitting below). She agreed the view was beautiful.

Before we left St. Louis she asked me to take my camera. I chose not to, telling her "We've been to NYC many times and I used to live there. I know what it looks like so why do I want to spend my time looking through a viewfinder?" I got a big "I told you so!" and I agreed with her I should have taken my camera to capture that gorgeous view. My comment was, "Next time, I'll bring the camera."

Sunday evening we flew out of LGA and as we banked southward after departing to the west, I pointed out the lights of the WTC to her and said, "Say goodbye."

Less than 36 hours later it was gone forever."
