Some classes of temporary visas should be OK too, provided they're not tourist visas. Some college classmates spent a year studying abroad in Japan and were part of their healthcare system.Not that I think America could pull off a functional universal healthcare system, but let's say a miracle happens and we get one that is both inexpensive and doesn't suck, the following should be OK: -US Citizens -Green Card Holders -Work Visa Holders -Family of Work Visa Holders who have their own non-working visa (usually spouses, children) -Student Visa Holders Once universal healthcare happens, employer provided healthcare will stop being a benefit, and without allowing all the classes of people currently receiving employer healthcare, we'd have less people covered than there are now. |

Which may mean an amnesty, just like reagan did in the 80s, when it was more likely one could “compete for your job”(barring the reality that you personally were civil service). Face facts.The one thing I want to see in any reform is the means to make it easier and affordable for small businesses and family farms to get visas for temporary workers. Being marginally profitable doesn't mean you don't need the help nor can you afford lawyers at hunndreds per hour to handle applications for you. Thta system is Byzantine and needs simplification far more than the 1040 does. For sure. Make it easy for farmers to get legal help in when they need it, and they won't be bringng in workers illegally. |
