Why I will reluctantly vote for the power-hungry crook

Posted by AlM on Wed Oct 31 00:04:11 2018

Meaning Prince Andrew, of course.

The answer is 2020 redistricting. NY has to help counter the gerrymandering of Republican-dominated states.

Your vote ain't reluctant. Don't lie.

And it's Democratic districts that are gerrymandered.

Equally important is a Democratic state Senate. Then we can legislate against what Washington does if we don't get a federal Democratic-controlled Senate. At least we can protect New York as best possible.

I'm voting for Molinaro knowing full well that Chairman Andrew will win the election. It doesn't matter anyway because NY state is a slowly dying state. We lose population (and congressional seats, in every census.

Still undecided who I am going to vote for. May write in a candidate. Voted for Prince Andrew in primary only because I thought Cynthia Nixon was bat-s**t crazy. Don't agree with many of the policy positions of Molinaro and I don't think he will sufficiently end the corruption that is Albany. It will just be corrupt in favor of different donors. As you said, Prince Andrew is a power-hungry crook.

It is currently far more successfully done by Republicans. Until the Supreme Court wakes up and realizes how bad it is for the country, Democrats (and democrats) need to fight back.

That is because it is easier for Republicans to do. Democrats tend to live in clusters so any neutral looking district populationwise will tend to favor Republicans if you start with clustering the Democrats in the big cities and working your way out from there. In New York, if you start with Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Bronx and focus on getting as many solidly Democrating districts as you can there it will leave more Republican districts elsewhere and provide an overall Republican lean to state delegation versus the actual voting numbers

That is because it is easier for Republicans to do.

I know that. But they also had more political will, and far more opportunity, given that 2010 was a bad year for Democrats in state elections.

If the Supreme Court doesn't rein in gerrymandering, and the Democrats win the State Senate in 2020, NY should be able to eliminate the Republican Congressional seat in NYC and the two on LI. They should also be able to consolidate the 6* upstate possibly Republican districts into 4.

* Yes, Delgado and Brindisi might win, giving the Democrats 2, but only because and if it's a fairly Democratic year.

PS. I would far rather the Supreme Court were to rein in gerrymandering.

Yes, you are correct. New York is attracting young people again. Or should you say attracting young undocumented immigrants for whom you'll gladly pay to support. Higher taxes will drive out both businesses and the real middle class. In the meantime demogogs like you will pay more for services and your vote will be diluted by so many votes cast by non-citizens. Enjoy little Mario's utopia, that is until MS13 opens their Albany headquarters somewhere near your fat ass.
