That is because it is easier for Republicans to do.I know that. But they also had more political will, and far more opportunity, given that 2010 was a bad year for Democrats in state elections. If the Supreme Court doesn't rein in gerrymandering, and the Democrats win the State Senate in 2020, NY should be able to eliminate the Republican Congressional seat in NYC and the two on LI. They should also be able to consolidate the 6* upstate possibly Republican districts into 4. * Yes, Delgado and Brindisi might win, giving the Democrats 2, but only because and if it's a fairly Democratic year. PS. I would far rather the Supreme Court were to rein in gerrymandering. |
