The democrats need a solid message

Pay raises not one time crumb bonus
Less debt
Better healthcare

Thats what the message is they need to hammer home.

We have American citizens subsidizing corporations and essentially paying for our own one time bonuses by giving our children a higher national debt.

And conservatives cheer for that.

Gotta love it.

I didn't know bonuses of 2% or more of yearly salary were "crumbs." I guess if you are Nancy Pelosi you don't like the loss of big tax breaks for real estate so average Americans can make more money. A number of businesses have also announced pay increases. Furthermore, as unemployment shrinks businesses will have to raise wages in order to attract employees.

2% before or after bonus tax sir? Also some bonuses came with caveats such as time in company. Nothing like 20 years or $50 per year of time served. Glad you and Dave enjoy bragging about that one.

So you cheer a one time 2%* (put that astersk there for people such as yourself) bonus instead of a substantial raise in wages?

Let me educate you on the tax brackets youre bragging about so much
The average American saves if theyre single $500
Married filing jointly $669
Head of household $2000

And remember this decreases each year and in 2026 all will pay MORE.

Also your last point would work, however if the feds have to quickly raise interest rates due to the overheating economy you basically wipe it out. As borrowing costs soar. Thats what caused the panic over the last few weeks on wall street.

So you would need raises in wages to outpace an overheated economy and that would trigger even more raises in the interest rates. You just began a loop.

Congratulations, keep cheering for 2% before taxes and a future tax hije and mininal savings for the average american. While corporations get a permanant tax break and save in some cases over $50 billion.

While our nation gets more into debt.

The Democrats have to get a clear message. The "we are not the Republicans", look at how terrible everyone else is, and victim this and that and they are racists isn't a clear message of what THEY can do or are about.
Calling everyone racists, and playing up the victim card only gets so far

Yep. We're borrowing money we'll have to repay later at higher interest rates to heat up the economy when it was already doing very well anyway, and stimulate inflation. Beautiful!

A "number of businesses" is NOT broad based by any means. Some way too rich Fortune 500 conglomerate announces 2% raises so that makes it okay for millions?

As corporate earning come on as November gets closer this story will change.

A $1000 bonus is roughly $.50 an hour over 1 year. Your 2% figure means you’re talking about 50,000 a year salary or roughly 25 bucks an hour. If somebody gave me $1000 I wouldn’t call it crumbs. But I would also know that it’s not the same as giving me a raise so in the long term it is kind of chump change. That and you watched Wall Street cough once they started seeing workers getting some money.

He asked about wage increase, not bonuses. And it's only companies that have publicly reported giving bonuses and/or wage increases; what we'll never know is how many companies have raised wages without reporting it to the media.

Has everything to do with Fred's post. In the 1990s, income expansion was broad based. Just about everyone saw incomes rise. This applies to a small but extremely hyped up minority and it's one fifth of the growth then.

Call me when we see wage expansion like the 90s, and equally broadly. we Won' out of trump, or his tax cut.

I responded with data showing the middle class was not mortally wounded after the 1980's. Your followup to that post had nothing to do with this discussion. You're referring to the post 1990's period, 2000- 2009 and later. That's not what I was addressing.
