Crossing the international date line is cheating. Now the Concorde used to take off from Paris after sunrise and arrive in New York before sunrise. People on the plane would observe the sun setting in the east.

I know but it's the best we've got now, other than the dudes talking a walk around the poles.

When I fly back from Tokyo I always take off at 10ish AM and arrive in Chicago at 7ish AM the same calendar day, after 12 hours in the air. This last time I saw the sunrise twice for the same day, once from my hotel room and again just before landing at O'Hare. Travelling east across the dateline is awesome.

West, of course, sucks donkey balls, because you feel like you've been cheated a day (take off Wednesday evening, fly 13 hours, land three hours shy of Friday. Wtf happened to Thursday?).

I daresay when it comes to time travel, an A-330-200 is probably more comfortable than a DeLorean . :)

Atlanta GA to Birmingham AL has frequent flights that take about -10 minutes gate to gate. The 11:37 PM Delta flight might take a few minutes taxiing tonight and do the same thing.

Qantas Flight 7 departs Sydney at 2:40 p.m. and arrives in Dallas at 1:00 pm. the same day - over 1 1/2 hours earlier - despite being a 15 hour 20 minute flight.

I've taken a non-stop flight from Tokyo to NYC a few times for business. It isn't the sunrise I miss. It's the 40 hour day that threw me for a loop.

Pfft, airbeese. Give me a B787 or B767 any day.

Does anyone remember the Twilight Zone episode where the jetliner traveled to the prehistoric era, then the 1930's Worlds Fair?

Given the crampt arrangements that most airlines have picked for the 787s, I don't know why you'd like them. The A350 is far better...

They're already trying to squeeze 10 across in the A350. Even if the seats are narrow I prefer 9 across (and the B787 can never be reconfigured to 10 across). The three middle seats end up all being better than their side counterparts - the aisle has a maximum of half a person needing to climb over to get out. And the middle guy gets two people's worth of bathroom breaks to get up without inconveniencing someone.

That said I try to fly Premium Economy, which on a 787 is 2-3-2.

From what I understand, the typical seating in coach is:
A330/340 - 2-4-2, second best
A350 - Design: 3-3-3
A380 - 3-4-3 (bottom) 2-4-2 (top)
B747 - 3-4-3
B767 - 2-3-2, best
B777 - Design: 3-3-3, 3-4-2, or 2-5-2, Nowadays: 3-4-3 cattle car
B787 - Design: 2-4-2 (JAL and early ANA planes), Everyone else: 3-3-3

That's a thing? I haven't heard of anybody that's attempting that arrangement thankfully...

B767 - 2-3-2, best

As long as DL keeps flying these to Europe with Comfort+, I'll keep handing them my money and AMEX points.

United and Air Canada had 2-3-2, and United's economy+ makes it perfect.

Stupidly though, everyone seems to do 2-1-2 or 2-2-1 for business class on those. Meanwhile on the much wider 777, they do 1-2-1. Something's not quite right here...

Except with the problem of being, you know, United. :-)

IIRC, Delta does 1-2-1 on their 767s, but it's generally not seen as their best implementation of their business class product...
