Liberals at the time were puzzled that this followed hard on the debate on and passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (MLK died in 1968). Thus came the phrase: "The Crisis of Rising Expectations"; it meant things were getting better but not fast enough. Kind of like the intifadas because Israel wasn't giving up land quickly enough. |
