There have been rumors of Northern Ireland voting to split and rejoin Ireland proper sometime in the near-ish future. On the one hand, the US may have broken away the same way Canada and Australia did - over tea, and only "effectively" while still keeping the monarch on the money.On the other hand, if the US had not broken away via revolution, someone else may have, and the dominoes would have simply fallen later. |

In the end, the Napoleonic Wars might have caused another taxation problem, which could cause the colonies to try for independence (again?). |

However rumor (rumour?) has it that Catholics voted for Leave on purpose so as to trigger the scenario you described. |
