The video shows that Garner's neck was compressed for about 30 seconds, long enough to induce hypoxia. He clearly goes into catdiorespiratory arrest during the takedown, and this was compounded by the failure of the EMS crew to do even the most cursory patient evaluation, before throwing him on their stretcher, without doing anything else for him. Had they and the police looked upon Garner as a person, instead of a lowly "smell" (Latin for "person who deserves to die"), Garner might have survived his arrest.It doesn't take long to asphyxiate someone by choking them. |
