Among the first laws passed by the new government, gun control measures were significant in number.

And what laws might that be?

Point in fact: Why did the British General Thomas Gage dispatch Major John Pitcairn to Concord on the night of April 18, 1775? To seize powder, shot, and arms. On the morning of April the 19th, 50 to 60 militiamen met them at Lexington.

He sure wasn't going there for a picnic or a tea party. Big mistake; he and his men were shot at all the way back to Boston. He started out with about one thousand men, but before he got back to Boston he had lost 273 men. This should tell anyone with the brains of a gnat what our forefathers thought of gun control; they were willing to start a war with the mightiest nation in the world at the time over this and other issues.

Additional point in fact: Excluding the Second Amendment, it wasn't until 1927 that the Federal government passed legislation regulating guns.

So...WABB! Stop posting your lies.

What if the judgment provides the violent GCM an out? They basically walk, while the victim of violence suffers the rest of their lives. What about the ones that get away with it? There's many, such as negligent parents whee their child shots another. Leaving a gun where kids can find it is negligence. Yet nobody actually seems to pay for these "accidents" and gun proliferate.

The cost needs to be higher. Much higher. Onerously higher (much more than driving a car, which is now safer).

Plus why should a victim of violence have to share a settlement with an attorney? They should receive the full value in compensation for what they went through.

All this applies to automobile usage too. Many people "get away" with grossly negligient use of a motor vehicle. I have no problem with regulating guns more than they currently are. Your proposals have varied, so it's not clear to me exactly how onerously you want to regulate guns. But if you mean far more onerously than cars are regulated, that seems unreasonable.

Thee were plenty of laws regulating guns. Many were not kept in the home, but in a central location within the jurisdiction. Which in modernparlance would be a gun club, a secured location where owners could keep them safely and access as needed.

But, I don't see too many issues with having a muzzle loaded rifle in the home. The average gCM could handle it just fine. No? You say? Well, maybe we ought to allow "Darwin" his say, after all, ou are in favor of gun carnage in American homes.

Earlier in this thread I posted the points where controls on guns could work well. It's widely agreed that any or all of them would reduce the number of guns and therefore the plague of gun violence we are experiencing in this country. Add onerous taxation on gun ownership and we'd see declining violence rates rather quickly.

None of them infringe on "rights". They all fall into the "well regulated" spectrum.

There is nothing wrong with keeping a loaded, unlocked gun. The Supreme Court has said that such bans in the home are unconstitutional. The problem is not that the guns are loaded and unlocked, it is that people are careless in the operation of the gun and do not teach everyone in their house the proper respect for what a gun can do so how to handle it safely. A gun should never be in a place where it can be reached by someone who does not know how to properly handle it when it is loaded. A locked, unloaded gun is useless in home defense

There is PLENTY wrong with that. Loaded unlocked guns are the primary driver for gun "accidents" in the home. It is the primary driver for family members' suicides. It is complete, total negligence. N/or does it provide "protection".

Unless one hunts for food, requires protection from wild animals(not a risk in population dense areas) , or the rare case where a gun is necessary for work related issues, there is simply no point to owning one., and there's plenty of risk.
