The Valley Forge service plaza is open on the PA. Turnpike.
Inside you will find modern rest rooms, an "A"-Plus connivence shop, a few sit down tables, and a Starbucks in 2 sections. The section on the west side is coffee & muffins.the east section, has sandwiches, similar to a Wawa selection, your order from a touch screen, you have a choice of breakfast or lunch sandwiches , hoagies, hash browns , cookies... You order and walk over to the cashier in the "A'-Plus to pay and get receipt. Then back over to Starbucks and they call your number when it's ready.
Not a good place if you are looking for substantial food, I would advise stopping on the turnpike well before this plaza.

Is anyone looking for substantial food at a service plaza?

I remember the last time I stopped at a HoJo's on the Thruway in the 1980's shortly before the service plazas were converted to fast food. I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to spend the time eating a (lousy) sit-down meal with table service on a road trip. I usually just want to refuel myself and my car and get going again.

I usually look for a Subway, Wawa's or Sheetz - type place when I'm traveling.

I do have a favorite restaurant on my most frequent road trip. But no one is going to replicate that at every rest stop.

This is true. I guess for the traveler is OK The Valley Forge Starbuck's did have individual pizzas, I guess the guy would heat it up for you.I did not see any burgers or steak sandwiches like you see at other plazas. Coming home from trip last Saturday I was fairly hungry and was happy to see a "Steak & Shake" place at the Highspire Plaza.I had steak burger and fries and it was quite good.

IMHO the Valley Forge service area has always been the best location to pause and figure out the best way to get past Philly. It's an excellent location to check traffic on the Schuylkill and decide whether or not to take that route or avoid the city and stick with the PA Turnpike to the NJTP.

When you're on a road with long distances between the exits like on American toll roads or European motorways, then you're more inclined to stop and eat "real food" versus on highways where exits are close together, and the frequency of restaurants is higher. When there's an Denny's every few exits, you won't miss service plazas as much. When the next exit is 20 miles away, and you want food "now", then you may put up with what the service area provides.

FWIW, in some European countries, there are also hotels at the service areas.

Pretty much every American interstate has ... ahem ... "lodging" which usually consists of a tossed-together "Motel Hate" or "Hamster Inn" located about 5 feet away from the passing lane where you can be serenaded by the interestate with paper thin walls all night long so you can go without sleeping and get back on the road when they want to toss your ass out at 6AM. :)

"GAS FOOD LODGING" and not guaranteed to be in that specific order.

We're talking about tollways and freeways that go through rural areas where there are long distances between exits that lead to civilization. Do try to keep up.

FWIW, I've stayed in the the Days Inn right on the Thruway in Saugerties and their noise insulation was quite good.

Yeah, probably because of the need to insulate for winter. The worst ones are way down south.
