Posted by SMAZ on Mon Jul 27 15:31:20 2015 fiogf49gjkf0d Jindal: Westboro Baptist Members Who Protest Funerals Face Arrest The extremist group, which considers mass shootings an act of God, plans to picket Lafayette shooting victims' funerals. Shahien Nasiripour - Chief Financial and Regulatory Correspondent, The Huffington Post Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said members of the Westboro Baptist Church face arrest if they try to protest funerals in his state for victims of the Lafayette movie theater shooting. The hate-mongering church has indicated it plans to protest the funerals, which begin Monday. The group considers mass shootings in the U.S. to be an act of God in retaliation for various sins. John Russell Houser shot 11 people Thursday during a 7 p.m. showing of “Trainwreck,” killing Mayci Breaux, 21, and Jillian Johnson, 33, before killing himself. Houser reportedly expressed admiration online for Westboro. "If they come here to Louisiana, if they try to disrupt this funeral, we're going to lock them up," Jindal, a presidential candidate, said on CBS's "Face The Nation" Sunday. "We're going to arrest them. They shouldn't try that in Louisiana. We won't abide by that here. Let these families grieve." Westboro members protest funerals to call attention to their own extremist views. Jindal already has issued an executive order that attempts to block Westboro members from protesting the funerals. "They better not try that nonsense here," Jindal said. Some Lafayette residents have promised to form a human wall around the funerals to prevent any protests. Thousands of people have reportedly pledged to join.

Given Jindal's anti-gay attitudes, in his own words,, I have to think not. However, I'm not sure Jindal's actions here amount to a "bill of attainder", which is, IINM, the summary declaration of an individual or group's guilt without a trial. Jindal is only threatening the Westboros with arrest, so far...

But I wouldn't want the funeral of a loved one marred by governmental extralegal activity.

But it's OK if you're a republican to do that. :-\ The BETTER approach would be to form a ring around them, let them protest and keep them away from the others. That way they still get their First Amendment and the others don't have to endure it.

Attainder refers to punishment, and summary punishment at that. Arrest is not punishment.

Jindal is only threatening the Westboros with arrest, so far... You mean he is preemptively declaring to arrest someone without any probable cause that they may be committing of a crime? He issued a summary declaration that people who conduct this kind of peaceful (if odious) protests are guilty of criminal misconduct even though the SCOTUS has already conclusively ruled it as protected free speech. What do you call such an action if not an executive bill of attainder?

A couple of years ago about 650 Texas A&M students formed a human wall to block the WBC asshats who tried to show up at a military funeral.
