The study found that Hispanics played a mere 4.9 percent of the characters studied, despite the group representing 16.3 of the U.S. population (according to the U.S. Census Bureau) and 25 percent of movie ticket sales. "I didn't realize we were doing so poorly, but you have to remember, most people in Hollywood only interact with Latinos in subservient positions," Rick Najera, a Hispanic actor, producer and writer, told NBC News. "They think we are all maids, gardeners and nannies. They don't know Latinos who are professionals." Najero pointed out the 2012 film "Argo," which stars Ben Affleck, as Tony Mendez, a Latino character from Colorado. "And if you are not seeing Latinos on camera, that means there are probably few Latinos behind the camera, or writing scripts," he said. In addition, the study found that Hispanic actresses were "more likely than females from all other races/ethnicities to be shown partially or fully naked on screen," at 37.5 percent. Patricia Rae ("The Big Wedding," "Maria Full of Grace") notices this "all the time on the breakdowns," or casting notices. "It's like if you are Latino, you have to get naked," she said. "It seems like many projects, even for TV shows, say 'Nudity Required.'" In addition, Rae laments the lack of diverse roles available to Hispanic actors. "It is frustrating, especially because they want us all to have the stereotypical Latino look," she said. "I have fights with my managers all the time because I don't want to go in and audition for the role of the maid. I studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. I have done off-Broadway shows. That's incorrect.There are over two dozen states that have statutes requiring persons to "stop and identify" when requested to by police. Police may briefly detain a person if they have reasonable suspicion that the person has committed, is committing, or is about to commit a crime. California is not of these states, BTW. Even in states where there is no such statutes, SCOTUS in Terry v. Ohio established that it is constitutionally permissible for police to temporarily stop a person based on reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. These stops can also be sustained based on calling the police to report a crime, being in the location where a crime was reported or even being a witness to a crime or accident. The question whether it is constitutionally permissible for the police to demand that a detainee provide his or her name was considered by SCOTUS in Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of Nevada, which held that the name disclosure did not violate the Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures. This applies in Nevada, not California. So in the recent stop of Danielle Watts, what is the crime she and her partner are alleged to have committed? Was it her kissing him? If you can believe TMZ, they were involved in indecent exposure with the car door open. More specifically, witnesses from the nearby Directors Guild office building told cops they were watching her and her partner have full-on sex in the passenger seat; the guy was sitting in the seat, she was straddling him and it was for everyone to see. One eyewitness told cops they cleaned themselves up afterward with a tissue. So if you can believe the TMZ story, the stop likely will be found good and she should have showed her ID. FWIW, the ACLU of NorCal advises people who are stopped to present an ID when requested. |

Brian was sitting in the passenger seat with his feet on the curb and Daniele was straddling him with her shirt pulled up -- breasts exposed. The eyewitness says she was grinding on top of him, rocking back and forth. Someone from the office went down and asked Daniele and Brian to stop because everyone in the office could see them but they continued. Office workers who saw this called 911... |
