FACT-The officer performed an ILLEGAL chokehold on Eric Garner.FACT-The EMT did not perform their duties to assess their patient and perform even the BASIC procedures for this situation. FACT-Eric Garner is dead as a result. FACT-The officer's lied on their report of the incident said Eric Garner didn't seem to be in physical distress despite the fact he stated multiple times in a panicked manner he couldn't breath and was unresponsive after being handcuffed as seen on the video. MY Opinion-the fact the officers can lie on in their report about an incident that was actually caught on video makes me wonder what else they lie about. I believe most police officers are good but I also believe there are bad officers and there is little to no accountability for their actions and are getting away with murder figuratively and literally. |

Reality is that the choke hold has been determined to be the cause of death too many times. Black people's bodies (even in excellent health) are particularly vulnerable to this outcome which is why it has been prohibited. It's quite clear that violation of this NYPD policy (based on MANY sad outcomes) was the cause of death.I hope you consider me to be a fairer player than many others here but in this case, violation of NYPD policy was the cause of death, plain and simple and there was absolutely no need for it. The requirement NOT to use the choke hold has been policy and part of the training at John Jay and the academy for over a decade now. It's not like the officer wasn't aware of this and it can clearly be a basis for a charge of criminally negligent homicide. Only reason why I've been keeping out of these threads is that I am just too disgusted with so many of the responses to even bother any more with it. :( |
