And on 2, the Clandestine service didn't want to tip anybody's hand as to who knew what until they'd finished their own analysis. Information as to what information had been gathered can compromise feet on the ground. That's a no-no. Unless of course republicans decide to do it. |

The CIA and State Department agreed she should lie by withholding CIA knowledge of terrorist activity. The Deputy Director of the CIA was strongly in favor of withholding this information while the Director was not, but the Director gave in.Lying to not make the State Department look bad is very shabby, even when it has no consequences. Lying to protect CIA sources, which the deputy director was trying to do, is not if the consequences are as minimal as these were. What damage was done by refusing to admit on Sunday that the US knew it was planned terrorist activity? |

So it's OK with you if the government covers up its own ineptitude in order to ensure that the President doesn't look bad in an election year? And you're OK with the US Government blaming a YouTube video when they knew that serious terrorists were really behind the attack? 1. The government didn't cover up its ineptitude. It was known right away. Please note however that the Obama administration has better protected American installations abroad than any other administration since President Ford. Mistakes happen, and they've happened less under Obama. Hoepfully they'll happen even less going forward. 2. I'm OK with it because the deputy director of the CIA strongly argued that he didn't want it to be known that the CIA knew that it was planned terrorism. I would have preferred if their concealment of that knowledge had been handled better. They could have said it's quite likely to be terrorism without tipping their hand about what they knew. |
