So what's left of the Benghazi Scandal?

Well, 2 scandals, actually.

1. The State Department provided extraordinarily poor security at the Benghazi Consulate and caused the deaths of 4 people.

2. Then they tried to cover up their failures.

Let's look at #1:

- It turns out that the Benghazi Consulate was actually a CIA operation. The CIA takes massive risks all the time - that's their job. Unfortunately an ambassador got hit by their risk-taking.

Now, #2.

- The CIA prepared the talking points. They didn't want the CIA to look bad.

- The State Department objected to the talking points. They stated things that, while probably true, weren't provable yet. They also made the State Department look bad because the CIA wasn't accepting its role in the debacle.

- In the back and forth, it's easier to get stuff removed than added. So what's left is bland stuff that doesn't say anything and leaves out the understanding that this attack was a premeditated event.

Basically, no one in government wanted to look bad. What a surprise! And in making a statement that didn't make them look overtly bad, it just made them look stupid. That's what Part 2 of the scandal has come down to.
