Big problem is that more than 50% of our state's lawgivers live way south of there and apparently don't care. It's a very long bridge, and that would get expensive for sure just on the basis of its length even though most of it is causeway. But there's the problem. The causeway itself was built on the cheap on wooden piles driven into the river rather than something more substantial. And those pesky sea worms have eated it.

I'd agree that a tunnel would make a lot more sense since there's plenty of big boats that pass under it requiring the height it has, maybe even more. What I *don't* get though is why they refuse to run trains over it even if they may need to add more tracks south of it since MNRR is pretty close to capacity as it is. Still ...
