Brooklyn has one of the deepest bays in the world (Thanks Fred G for that info!) so for freight I would focus on building a route that would connect Elizabeth Shipyards and Freight, Staten Island and Brooklyn Freight Yards with a connection to that Brooklyn Line that parallels the Sea Beach... (LOL forgot). You serve 3 major areas, make Staten Island prime for industrial development and give Brooklyn the chance to build up its ports and help NYC become an industrial powerhouse again. WIth a connection to the freight line you can move rail from either brooklyn or SI through either Jersey then via Conrail to Upstate NY or via Oak Point towards New Haven or Selkirk (HAHA). Since the height difference is a major factor with MNRR, a tunnel would be a better option than the bridge because a bridge forces any commuter rail line to connect with the Harlem Line which only has 2 tracks to Crestwood. Build the tunnel and have it connect to the Hudson Line. |
