By leaving them cash, you encourage the possibility that they illegally don't report that cash and don't pay tax on it.It's not the customer's job to encourage tax compliance. That waiter/waitress starts paying tax on FICA and other levies on every cent of earned income. Meanwhile it's the government who pays a portion of the customer's meal when it's for business/entertainment purposes. Look at it as a small offset that helps the bottom 10% for a change. |
