Perhaps I didn't state it properly so let me restate it. We only import crude oil. All petroleum products consumed in the USA is refined in the USA. That is in addition to the oil products that we export. Refinery capacity is not the issue. My issues are 2 fold.If all the crude used in this country is produced here, it takes supply disruption off the table. It stops the speculators who feed off world tensions. The onerous federal regulations that force refineries to shut down twice a year to reconfigure their product based on summer and winter blends. Such shutdowns are extremely costly and add as much as $1 per gallon to the price of gasoline. |
