My understanding is that Torah obligations are for the Jewish people only and that Gentiles are only obligated to follow the 7 Noahide laws. Gentiles are not required to follow any precept or law in the Torah outside the 7 Noahide laws. Simple enough.

That being said, I personally don't care what religion you follow and I believe that everyone is free to worship whomever and however they like.

My one personal requirement is that you don't try to foist your religion on me, and that is the objection I have toward certain sects of Christianity. If you want to believe that Jesus was the Son of God and was sacrificed to save the world, fine by me. But don't start then telling me that MY own religion requires me to believe the same way and if I don't believe that way, then I am not practicing my own religion properly and in fact am a godless sinner who is heading straight to hell. That crosses the line.

What I particularly find objectionable is the notion that Jesus is the Messiah predicted by the Prophets, who were all staunch followers of the Torah. Lets put aside the fact that Christianity often misinterprets, mistranslates and takes the words of the Prophets out of context in many instances. [Take a look at the points raised by Nachmanides in the famous Barcelona Debate of 1263 for examples.]

Jews heard the words of the Prophets for hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, and we understood very well what they said, thank you very much. For Christians to now come along and tell me that either I don't know or that I am intentionally ignorning what the Prophets were "really" telling me and that THEY do know despite arriving centuries after the Prophets lived despite no Christian ever having heard Isaiah or Jeremiah firsthand, and also to tell me that if I don't listen to the Christians' view of things, then I am "wrong" and have a "veil over my eyes" is the height of temerity and arrogance.

If Christians want to use and refer to the Old Testament to fit their beliefs, be my guest, its a free country. I will even support your right to do so. I happen to enjoy the Christmas season, as people seem to be more cheerful and I appreciate the pageantry and the lights and the songs. Hell, my brother I and watched every Christmas TV cartoon growing up [my favorites were The Year Without a Santa Claus and A Charlie Brown Christmas].

But don't then tell me that not only is your intepretation right for you, its also right for me no matter what.

Leave me alone.

Merry Christmas!
