Since, for the most part, Europe does not have people of color, there was no White flight to the suburbs, allowing that system to develop. More affluent (read: higher IQ) individuals would, all else being equal, prefer to stay closer to the jobs, which for the most part are in the cities. The European po' folk have been relegated to the periphery of the cities.The main driver of White flight are schools. Whites, for the most part, do not want their children in the same schools with "troubled" (read: colored) kids. Hence as urban school districts became darker, Whites fled to the suburbs to avoid this. Many American cities are gentrifying now because childless Whites and those able to afford private schools are moving back, where the color of the public school student body is not an issue. |
