SMAZ,Civil unions pose an interesting conundrum for the politicians who support them. They are supposed to convey the same State-level rights as marriage only without the term "marriage." So, if they are the same, why do we need two different terms -- separate but equal has never worked out in the past, so why keep trying? They rarely have a good answer for that one. But the best way to get them to go speechless is to ask them for a show of good faith and dissolve their "traditional marriage" and replace it with a civil union. I have yet to hear of one willing to go that far in support of civil unions. :o) ~Alan |
