While i agree with your post, it's still politically short-sighted for LGBT grups to go for either marriage or nothing.Civil unions enjoy wide popular support even amongst rank-and-file Republicans. That's something that gay marriage still does not have. Not all fair-minded people have come to the conclusion that you and I have. If the possibility is there to get a civil union bill through a Legislature, it's dumb to shitcan it just because it doesn't say "marriage". Illinois recently legalized civil unions and that's great progress in the unstoppable march towards equality for all. |
