If a child's parents were both Republican, would you call him a Republican child? What if one parent was a Republican and the other a Democrat? Does it go by the mother or the father?

Political affiliation isn't religion, and parents have no control what political beliefs their kids have, and often it's complete opposite. You don't go to "Democrat school", and you don't go through certain stages to become a practicing Democrat. As for mother and father, religion is still chosen by the parents. Unless converted, or decided not to partake in religion, most people are the religion their parents decided for them.
